I take my own photographs of Australian wildlife and reproduce the photos into pastel artworks. The title of this pastel is 'Hinkler', which is the name of the road where the photo was taken. The subject is a female red-tailed black cockatoo, which is endangered in Australia. Every summer, we have a number visit us in Bundaberg, Queensland eating left over macadamia nuts and pine cones. The last red-tailed black cockatoo I painted was sold to a client in Texas, USA. Hinkler was done in soft pastels (base layer) and pastel pencils for the fine details. The surface is called Clairefontaine Pastelmat, it's made in France and is the choice of professional pastelists. I love working with pastels as they are so vibrant.
